Me again Hi, my name is Carl. I am a psychotherapist, marriage and family therapist, and hypnotherapist. I work with individuals, couples and families with addiction, ADHD, adolescent problems, affairs, alcohol, ambivalence, anger, anxiety, autism, bereavement, bipolar disorder, blended families, borderline personality disorder, child reaction to parent separation, communication, connection, couple issues, depression, domestic violence, family conflict, marital conflict, mental illness, parenting, personality disorders, relationship conflict, separation, stress, substance abuse, suicide, trauma, and work conflict.

I have been around awhile. I've studied life at the biochemical, psychological, social, and metaphysical level. I'm all about learning, helping, and having fun. I have been helping people in my career for over 30 years.

I am a Clinical Fellow and Approved Supervisor with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. I belong to the Canadian Association too. Through my work with them I bring expertise in healing relationships. I also teach marriage and family therapy, and supervise the practices of other therapists.

I am a regulated healthcare professional, member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.

Doing What Works

People are courageous and strong, and usually already have the resources that they need to solve their difficulties. My job is to help you find what you already have. I do that by listening to you. And I will share with you things that may help.

If you haven't had psychotherapy before, you may be surprised by how much just being listened to can help. And I hope that you will also be surprised by how much you are doing right, and how much you already know.

Did you know that most psychotherapy is brief? Average length of stay, over all forms of therapy, is about 8 sessions. Many people come for one session, or a few, and find sufficient help.

Individuals, Couples, Families...

As a family psychotherapist I actually see a lot of individuals. Many come to see me for "individual" problems: anxiety, depression, anger, etc. Many come to see me for family or couple problems: they come alone because they can't get or don't want the other parties to attend with them. That's fine. Come alone, if you like. We can put our heads together and see what we can do.

You can also bring a friend. Bring your partner. Bring your family.

I also offer hypnotherapy, where appropriate. Hypnosis is similar to mindfulness or focused relaxation. If you've seen a stage show, you'll be disappointed. What I do is pretty bland and boring by comparison. You won't lose control. You won't do anything you don't want to do. You'll probably remember everything that happens.

But it's helpful. It can help you relax and become less anxious. It can help you access internal resources for dealing with your problems.

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. I will teach you how to do it on yourself.

Online Counselling is Safe and Effective

COVID-19 goes on and on. Ontario is opening up slowly. Want accurate information? Go here.

Health Canada has simple recommendations to help slow the spread of COVID-19:

  1. Wash your hands
  2. Cover your cough
  3. Practice social distancing
  4. Wear a mask

I never thought I'd see a day where masks were required to go into banks...

New: I am now seeing a limited number of clients face to face. I still offer telephone and secure video appointments.

The booking calendar has an option for face to face appointments. You must wear a mask into the building, and pass a COVID screening when you arrive.

Not sure about video counselling? Take a free test-drive

You can schedule a free 15-minute session online with me. I will send you the link to set up the free, secure, video app and meet you online for a brief chat.

OnCall Health, the provider of my video service, also has an excellent help desk.
